Hill Finding His Role With Knicks

After a well-publicized slow start to the season, the New York Knicks were able to quickly turn things around in December. With Dunk Contest perennial Nate Robinson back in the lineup, the Knicks currently find themselves in the midst of a hot-and-cold January. Most recently, they took one of two in back-to-back games against the Pistons.

In addition to Robinson, the Knicks have been boosted by solid contributions from their rookie PF Jordan Hill. Hill was inexplicably relegated to the bench for roughly a month, but has been back in the mix recently. In his four games of action during January so far, Hill is averaging 13 minutes of playing time, with 5.3 points and 2.5 boards per game. His field goal percentage remains stellar at .551, the 42nd best field shooting average in the league. What’s more, he already has more field goal attempts this month than he did for the entire month of December.

Having played the last two games against Detroit, both of which were tight, Hill looks to be positioned well for a swift come-up. It is definitely a good sign that he is getting minutes in close games. It shows increased confidence in the rookie from Coach D’Antoni, and could potentially allow him to earn a bigger permanent role. Eddy Curry’s unfortunate season-ending knee surgery may also prove to be a factor, freeing up a frontcourt-heavy bench.

The Knicks will try to extend their good fortunes as they go into a tough two-game stretch against the Lakers and Mavs. Luckily, right now, Jordan Hill and the Knicks seem to have a good amount of momentum which could carry them through some difficult games and set them on a real hot streak.
